Arjuna Ranatunga eyes a second innings

Minister of Ports and Shipping and former World Cup winning captain Arjuna Ranatunga has strongly hinted he would contest the top post at Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) at an expected election of office bearers later this year.

"I am close to the (SLC) presidency", Ranatunga was quoted as saying at a function in Nittambuwa.

He held the post once before.

Ranatunga accused SLC officials of conduct unbecoming of their responsibilities and slammed Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara for clinging onto their batting slots for too long that prevented the grooming of young players.
