New Zealand Honey Specialist has also appointed Royal Cashew as its exclusive distributor in Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

Managing Director, Royal Cashew, Dr. Ruwan Wathugala said that they are happy to see New Zealand Honey Specialist using Ceylon Cinnamon in some of its products and this is an honour for Sri Lanka. "It again proves that Ceylon Cinnamon is the world's best."

He said likewise, Sri Lanka cashew too is big in size and is considered as one of the best in the world for taste as well.

He said this is one reason why he created Royal Cashew first as a hobby and later due to product acceptance by Sri Lanka customers invested over Rs. 150 million on expansion from year 2000 to date.

Dr. Wathugala said today his business has expanded and they export to New Zealand, Australia, the Maldives, Japan and Malaysia.

"We have also strengthened our local presence and have opened outlets in Nugegoda, Borella, Galle, Kiribathgoda, K Zone Ja-ela and the Kandy City Centre. The latest one was opened at the food court in Welipanna on the Southern Highway.

He said the former Chairman of the Packaging Institute, J. D. C. Perera, encouraged them to participate in several trade fairs here and abroad and it helped them to strengthen their export base. "We met our New Zealand buyer, John Alwin, at one of these fairs in Malaysia."

He said science graduates were recruited to introduce new technology and R&D is helping the company to introduce several innovations and they hope to expand their plantations next year and also open a processing plant in Africa soon.

Company executive Ruwan Dantanarayana said today, the company has 19 varieties of cashew which is a world record. "We hope to introduce cashew cookies and biscuits."

He said they regularly visit suppliers and addresses quality issues and provide them other incentives.

Royal Cashew is also the first cashew processing company to receive the ISO and HACCP certifications.
