Evelina Solovieva:
Inspired
by the elements
by Ryhanna Salle
Painting has been an integral part of Evelina Solovieva's life from
the time she remembers and she draws inspiration from everything around
her. Her exhibition titled 5 Elements was held at the Harold Peiris
Gallery and showcased 36 paintings based on themes from nature.
Evelina likes drawing flowers, sand, sea, sunset, moonlight and
dragonflies in bold, vibrant shades of pink, yellow, red, green and
blue.
She is also interested in lithography and numerology and incorporates
concepts such as the Flower of Life, Digital Code 432 and Fibonacci
Spiral in her paintings. When asked to explain what these concepts mean
she says that the Flower of Life is the only image from sacred geometry
that contains every single aspect of creation, every single mathematical
formula, every law of physics, every harmony in music and every
biological life form.
She says Digital Code 432 in numerology is presented as a giant
musical instrument with a myriad of strings. And the Fibonacci Spiral
presents a graphic embodiment of an amazing sequence of numbers. She
uses roses, poppies, lilies, tulips, irises and dragonflies as symbols
and thereby explores her pre-occupation with nature.
Evelina started by doing pencil sketches and experimented with oil
paintings for several years until she perfected her technique. She is a
self taught artist who did not attend art school. She likes listening to
music, doing paintings with batik cloth and designing jewellery. She
lives in Sri Lanka and Nepal.
