60th anniversary of Sri Lanka - UN relations

The archival photographic exhibition that illustrated the
milestones of Sri Lanka-UN relations since 1955, were held
at the Mission premises with the participation of the
Permanent Representatives of the fifteen countries admitted
to the UN along with Sri Lanka sixty years ago, as well as
senior UN officials. |
The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka in New York celebrated the 60th
anniversary of the admission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations with an
archival photographic exhibition on December 14, 2015. This was followed
by a breakfast reception.
Sri Lanka was admitted to the UN on December 14, 1955 along with
Albania, Austria, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy,
Jordan, Laos, Libya, Nepal, Portugal, Romania, and Spain, following its
application to join the Organization in 1948.
Sri Lanka's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Rohan Dr
Perera gave a brief account of the excellent relations that Sri Lanka
has maintained with the UN as an active member of the Organisation.
He spoke of the significant role that Sri Lanka has played since its
admission to the UN. Perera later participated at a luncheon jointly
hosted by the Permanent Representatives of the sixteen countries in
honour of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, to mark the 60th anniversary of
their joint admission to the UN.
A short video documentary on 'Sri Lanka's sixty years in the United
Nations' produced by the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, was also
screened.
Pearl Hobby Craft Awards Ceremony
The
Certificate Awards Ceremony of Pearl Hobby Craft Tainting Institute
Colombo was held at the Manel Reception Hall, Colombo last week. Since
its inceptions in 2009, 113 students have received their certificates
and awards in Cake Making, General Cookery, handicraft and tailoring.
The Chief Guest was Principal of Harcourts International School, Mrs.
Faleela Bee Jurangpathy, and Guests of Honour, Vice President Ananda
Balika Vidyalaya Old Girls Association, Ms. Ruchira Yapa Abeywardena and
Amana Bank Ladies Branch Manager Mrs. J.B. Ashroff presented
certificates and awards to students. Director of Studies M.M. Fawadeen
was also present.
International Conference on Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Traditional
Medicine

The 3rd International Conference on Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Sri
Lankan Traditional Medicine, was held in Colombo recently with foreign
delegates from Australia Greece, India, Iran, Indonesia, Germany, Japan,
S. Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan and UK. Prof. V.K. Joshi of Benaris Hindu
University of India, Prof. Raisur Rahaman, Director General of Central
Council of Unani Medicine of India and Prof. Anup Thakar of Gujarat
Ayurveda University India gave the keynote speeches. ceremony.
The two-day Conference was held at the Institute of Indigenous
Medicine (IIM) Rajagiriya . Nearly 240 academics, researchers and
doctors participated.
Zahira OBA Annual Dinner

The Old Boys Association of Zahira College Colombo hosted the Annual
Dinner on the theme 'Towards a Golden Era' at the College Gaffoor Hall
