Shippers' Academy training program on Jan 20
The annual training program on Customs Harmonized Commodity System
better known as HS, organised by the Shippers' Academy Colombo will be
held for the fifth consecutive year to educate service industry
personnel in international trade.
Wherever a company or a person wants to work in an international
trading environment, HS knowledge is a key tool to operate efficiently
and identify products and duty structures.
The 2016 one-day Master class is open to exporters, importers,
logistics professionals, bankers, lawyers, insurers, shipping industry,
management trainees, new entrants to the trade and consultants in
international trade
The Harmonized Commodity Code System (HS) is an international method
of classifying products for trading purposes. This classification is
used by Customs officials around the world to determine the duties,
taxes and regulations that apply to the product under different trade
agreements.
The World Customs Organisation (WCO) and International Trade Centre
(ITC) modify and make many changes in the HS system. Traders and all
service providers should have a close understanding of the global
classification. HS knowledge will help them to break into and operate
new markets.
Exporters, importers or a service organisation such as logistics,
shipping, banking or insurance need to understand the correct
identification of products traded. This knowledge will help companies to
reduce cost, access new markets, and take corrective action on insurance
and transport costs.
The certificate program will be conducted by Deputy Director of
Customs, J.A.D.A Perera on Wednesday, January 20 from 8.30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
