A. T. Cooray celebrates 90 years

Furniture manufacturer A. T. Cooray (Pvt) Ltd began designing and manufacturing furniture almost 90 years ago when its founder A. T. Cooray who hailed from the South tried his hand at carpentry.

Intricately designed home furniture soon became his forte as he expanded his workshop and hired skilled artisans from the South.

Over the years, A. T. Cooray furnishers became known not only for its distinct designs but also for the quality of each piece of furniture it turned out.

A. T. Cooray soon found himself spreading his wares to Colombo, Kandy and Kegalle with showrooms being opened in 1946.

Today, the company managed by the third generation of the Cooray family, specialises in office furniture. The fact that the furnisher still operates out of one ultra-modern showroom in Colombo 3 is testimony to the emphasis it places on personalised service.

A. T. Cooray (Pvt) today stands for trust that has been passed down through generations of clients. Homes and offices of some of Sri Lanka's most notable names are still adorned by furniture and interiors designed and manufactured by the it, a company spokesman said.

As the company celebrates its 90th year, it hopes to broaden its horizons by tapping into the young entrepreneur market and cater to the growing demand for quality, elegant office furniture.
