Actress Emma Watson to take a break from acting
Emma Watson, who played Hermione in 'Harry Potter', says that she
will take a year off from acting. The actress became a Goodwill
Ambassador for the United Nations in 2014, to promote equality and help
improve opportunities for women and girls around the world.
As part of her work for the organisation, she gave a talk on how
important it is to make boys and girls more equal. She hopes that a
break from acting will give her more time to focus on that role.
World wetland Art competition 2016
The World Wetland Art competition was organised by the Central
Environmental Authority and Department of Wild life Conservation and
Education. President Maithripala Sirisena was the Chief Guest at the
event in Chilaw recently.
It was organised to create awareness among schoolchildren. The
highlight of the competitions was that the students participated in a
live drawing competition. Farook Fathima Rushda, a Grade 8 student of
Al- Manar National School, Kandy won second place. She was awarded Rs.
15,000 and a certificate by the President.
New furniture for several schools
There was a shortage of desks and chairs in schools for a long time.
Minister of Education, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam launched a plan to
provide new desks and chairs to schools.
The Ministry of Education took a count of all desks and chairs in all
the schools in the island. It was decided to provide desks and chairs to
schools in the country.
The program was launched to expand free education.
The Ministry of Education will also maintain a fund for expenses
related to repairing dilapidated buildings and broken desks and chairs.
Rs. 680 million was allocated recently among 340 schools.
