Nalanda 197, Ananda 55/1

Ananda College were 55 for one wicket after Nalanda College were bowled out for 197 on the first day of their 87th Battle of the Maroons big match at the SSC ground in Colombo yesterday.

Nalanda opener Nimnaka Ratnayake gave his team a brisk start and fell short of a half century by six runs after hitting six fours.

Malinga Amarasinghe made 37 with seven boundaries and Lakshitha Rasanjana 35 to boost the Nalanda total.

But overall Nalanda’s batsmen could not effectively counter the spin of Ananda off spinner Supun Waragoda who took 4 wickets for 13 runs while Sammu Ashan took 2 for 45.

Rahal Avishka who opened the batting for Ananda in reply was unbeaten on 28 along with skipper Nisal Francisco unbeaten on 15.
