Snow White staged
at BSC
Over 200 children in the Year Three and Four studying at the British
School, Colombo (BSC) staged Snow White at the British School recently.
With some captivating humorous twists and turns which barely
detracted from the original fascination of this tale spun by the Grimm
Brothers, audiences were entertained by the vivacious and
larger-than-life actors, rap dancers and singers.
The show opened with siblings Peggy Sue and Josh arguing that the
thing called love at first sight was really as believable as it was made
out to be. Together with their mothers, they embarked on a narrative
that carried the audience along to the ultimate happily-ever after
ending.
There was a remarkably strong performance from the Evil Queen who dug
deep into her morbid bag of tricks to wipe Snow White off the face of
the earth, keen on ensuring that she remains the fairest in the land.
Also notable was the performance from the DNR Reps whose
over-zealousness as government agents brought out a cheer or two from
the engrossed audience. The Year 3 musical interludes by Anu and dance
moves choreographed by Romena, Nadeeka and Erika, added colour and
movement to a highly successful evening.
The seven quirky but kind dwarves brought a breath of fresh air and
their act was so brilliant that it rubbed off on their protégé. Snow
White was unfazed when there was a momentary power outage in the
Auditorium as she daintily piped out her lines.
Director, E. Fazla has accomplished a tremendous task this term; a
task she is set to complete yet again as rehearsals start for the Year
Five and Six Production later in the School year. This was a play to
remember from a wonderful cast of Year Three and Four pupils taking part
in bringing this tale to life at the British School in Colombo.
