Sai Elders Home for the poor
The
National Council of the Sathya Sai International Organisations Sri Lanka
has commenced construction work on a home for elders in Meegoda, Padukka.
The first phase of the home will cater to 20 female and 20 male elders.
The facilities will be offered free of charge with no discrimination
whatsoever.
The home will have adequate space and facilities for physical and
mental well-being.
Ten percent of Sri Lanka's population are elders with a forecast of
22% by 2030. Half of them are over 70.
With no retirement benefits and increasing distancing of children due
to economic and social issues, the only way-out is to seek refuge in a
care home.
However, in Sri Lanka only 15,000 or less could be accommodated in
about 250 State or charity run home in various parts of the country.
Work on the building of the Sai Elders Home is in progress and
expected to be completed by November 2016. Those who are concerned could
help this noble cause.
