Commissioner Yashvardhan K. Sinha visited the historic Molligoda
Pirivena at Wadduwa in Kalutara recently, where he assured
Indian government support for future development of the
institution. Ven Ittapane Dhammalankara Thera, Mahanayake of the
Siyam Nikaya, Kotte Chapter, Ven. Kottupitiya Rahula Thera,
Anunayake Thera of the Siyam Nikaya, Kotte Chapter, Ven.
Homagama Dammananda Thera, Director of the Molligoda Pirivena
and Milinda Moragoda were also present. (This is the first time
an Indian diplomat had visited the Pirivena, which is one of the
most venerated and acclaimed centres of Buddhist ecclesiastical
learning in Sri Lanka. Dating back to 1894, the pirivena
provided the initial education to several eminent bhikkhus in
the country). Here Ven. Ittapane Dhammalankara Thera presents a
statue of the Buddha to the High Commissioner. |
