Iswan Omar elected CPRU President

Former Trinity College, Kandy and Up-Country ruggerite Iswan Omar was
elected as the president of the " CPRFU" Central Province Rugby Football
Union,at the AGM held at the Kandy Sports Club pavilion. He was
nominated by the Kandy Sports Club. and was the Secretary and president
of the CPRFU. Iswan Omar played for Trintiy College in the late 1967,
1968 and 1969 along with Ajith Abeyarthne, Shafie Jainudeen, Irwin Howie,
Mohan
Samarakoon, In 1967 he won colours and won the Trinity Lion title in
1969.
In the same year as a school boy, he was invited to play for Kandy
S.C. in the Clifford Cup knockout tournament., later he played for Kandy
RFC, when Kandy RFC was amalgamated with Kandy S.C. Omar joined Kandy
Sports Club in 1975 which lost the Cliford Cup semi-finals to Air
Force., After taking up planning he lplayed for UVA, Dimbulla A &
CC,Dickoya MCC and Up-Country.
His knowledge pf the sport and experience in administration, made him
the Chairman of the Kandy Sports Club conduted Singer - Sri Lankan
Airlines Sevens. |
