E.D. Jayasinghe Feelings etched on portraits

The artist E.D. Jayasinghe liked reading art stories and cartoons and was impressed by the work of the artists Susil Premaratna, G.S. Fernando and Bandula Harischandra since childhood. His forte is drawing portraits but he also likes drawing wildlife and historic places.

He was interested in art from junior school, and his Principal Mr. Chandrasekara recognised his talent and supported and encouraged him. He then entered the Sidhartha Kumara Vidyalaya in Gampaha where he met Mr. Dasanayake, brother of the popular musician Sarath Dahanayake, from whom he studied portraiture.

After leaving school he met Mr. Samarasinghe a student of the artist Manju Sri from whom he studied drawing human figures. Later on he worked at the Unique Multi Artists Airport in Katunayake. Jayasinghe’s favourite medium is charcoal and pencil because it best suits his portraitures and he works as a full time artist.
