Jayantha Silva - Expressions 13
Expressions 13 and exhibition of figurative art by Jayantha Silva was held from
6th to 8th May 2016 at the Lionel Wendt. The exhibition showcased 69 paintings
in Acrylic and Soft Pastel based on the themes of women, children and rural
life. The paintings titled “Beautiful Brown Eyes”, “Sleeping Beauty” and
“Contemplate” highlights the artist’s thematic concern with women and their
emotional experiences.
The paintings titled “No longer nobody’s child”,
“Boyhood” and “Study” are an exploration of childhood, and “Vegetable Seller”,
“Thatching for a Roof” and “Dhumbara Mat Weaver” bring to the fore his
pre-occupation with village life. The artist uses muted shades of brown, beige
and cream as well as vibrant shades of magenta, purple, red and green to create
vivid pictures. Jayantha’s paintings are emotionally charged, and capture
intimate and poignant moments in individual lives.
