World Interiors Day 2016
The Sri Lanka Institute of Interior Designers (SLIID) will comemmorate World
Interiors Day 2016 on May 28. SLIID will create awareness through the print and
social media, followed by a one-day interactive workshop and exhibition on June
25, from 10 am to 7 pm at the BMICH.
The global theme for World Interiors Day 2016 is, ‘Interiors Intelligence’.
Designing is to create thoughtfully a product or a space to entice the five
senses - to see, hear, taste, smell and touch.
To streamline and discipline the thinking process, designers should think smart,
should have a better understanding of the built environment and the ability to
explore.
SLIID will also hold an interactive workshop and exhibition titled, ‘Reach Out’
to attract practising interior designers in Sri Lanka.
“SLIID will provide the best service to practising interior designers. All
practising interior designers will be a part of the interactive workshop and
exhibition - ‘Reach Out’, and assist to achieve the goal, a good practice in the
field of Interior Designing,” , Interior Architect Governing Board Member SLIID,
Iyoni Liyanasuriya said.
“The importance of hiring an Interior designer or interior architect is vital.
As a profession, exploring creative skills to make a better space for built
environments, through innovation which assists the well-being of society. Our
contribution to state institutions and the public sector are very little.
This is simply due to unawareness of our presence. In the private sector, today,
the importance is being felt, but only a few understand the need of hiring an
interior designer or interior architect,” she said.
“With on-going development projects in Sri Lanka, our participation is not
recognised. We should have more activities and programs to create public
awareness,” she said.
“While celebrating World Interiors Day, we invite the public to join us at
‘Reach Out’, an interactive exhibition and workshop on Interior Designing at the
Banquet Hall, BMICH on June 25, from 10 am – 7pm,” she said.
Lankan among Top 10
photographers
Sri Lankan photographer Gihan de Silva was ranked among the World’s 10 best
wedding photographers by Destination Weddings & Honeymoons Magazine, UK. This
prestigious publication enjoys a wide circulation in New York, Paris, Monaco,
Berlin, Toronto, Sydney, Dubai and Cape Town and Harrods of London.
This accolade is just one among many on Gihan’s mantelpiece: Gihan is a leading
member of The Wedding Photojournalists Association, a professional organisation
comprising photojournalists and wedding photographers from around the world and
Fearless Photographers, a professional wedding photographers’ directory
featuring the world’s best wedding photographers.
Asked to comment on this honour, Gihan said, “I am honoured to receive this
prestigious award from Destination Weddings & Honeymoons Magazine, UK. It is the
fruit of many years of committed study, of tirelessly honing my craft and of
strenuous hard work.
This award proves beyond doubt, my well-founded belief that photography is more
than just pointing an expensive camera at something or someone and clicking a
button - that it indeed cannot simply be done by anyone sans the requisite
education, skill and sensibility.” |
