Sumitra Peries , the doyen of Sinhala cinema was the chief guest at the Young
Women’s Muslim League(YWML) annual event - ‘South- East Asian Splendour’, held
recently at the ‘Excellency’ in Charlemont Road, Colombo 6, to collect funds for
their many on- going charity projects.
The event was well organised with the Channa-Upuli dance troupe providing the
entertainment. Outgoing president Feroza Farook together with her committee and
other members did everything to make this event a success. Ms Fareeda Jiffrey, a
founder-member spared no pains in ensuring that the event will be remembered as
one of the best.
The on-going day care project in Kirullapone for underprivileged mothers is a
much-needed project, as many mothers in the area were unable to go out and earn
as they had no way of keeping small children at home .
This project assists in taking care of these children.
Maintaining a female ward at the Kalubowila Hospital and providing funds for
deserving students and deserving undergraduates to complete their fields of
study are some of their other endeavours.
Veteran actress Iranganie Serasinghe graced the occasion.
