Clique introduces Gastro bar – the first

Gastro bar by Clique, the first in Colombo, goes back to the basics. Think cuisine that is pure and prepared with quality ingredients, an urban gastro-bar that combines a hip and lively ambience with top class cuisine minus the frills. Little formality, but sensational flavours and playful cocktails.

Manic in action

“The Gastro bar promises to deliver a new unacquainted culinary experience complete with exciting exotic South Asian inspired cocktails, in an atmosphere that’s laid back. The food is always comfortable and soothing but it has a gourmet spin,” said Dmitri Jayasuriya, Managing Director of the Cantaloupe Group, who manages Clique and Gastro bar.

Clique’s innovative Gastro bar is a fusion of gastronomy and pub, a trend that goes back to the early 1990s when the moniker was used to describe The Eagle a pub that set trends in London that still sends ripples throughout pubs everywhere to this day.

“The concept is simple and true to its moniker, it’s the presence of Gastro bar and Clique Club, which comes with two different ambiences, genre of music and design under one roof,” said Dimitri.

Serving South Asian gastro-pub inspired beverages and cuisine at the Clique Bar, the Executive Chef of the restaurant COI Chef Vichalya Fernando is plating up the freshest, most exotic ingredients in wonderfully interesting ways.

The Gastro bar is also thrilled to introduce two new exciting bands who’ve been put together specifically for this space. The band In-Focus will return to Gastro bar after a successful debut in March and will occupy a regular Thursday night spot. In-Focus will also be collaborating with R&B and Soul greats Dulip Gnanakan, Kumar de Silva and Shiraz Noor-Amith along with British singing sensation Antoinette Wheelan.

Saturday sees newcomers Manic take to the stage. Some of the finest young talent in town – Shivy, Daniel, Damien, Janith, Sheranga and Duleep will come together to create a hip new sound with a saxophone vibe. During the band nights, the Gastro bar is a non-smoking space.

This Summer will not only see both In-focus and Manic join forces with the already popular Slipping Chairs (who recently moved to a regular Wednesday night spot in the Clique Club) to create a weekly line up of live music but will also see the introduction of both open mic (Tuesdays) and quiz nights (Wednesdays at the Gastro bar) attract work executives with great F&B combos mixed with quality entertainment by mid June.
