Gateway Kandy All Island cager champs

Gateway College Kandy won the Under 17 Boys Sri Lanka Schools ‘B Division’ Basketball Championship by beating St. Joseph’s College, Wattala in a closely contested final. Trailing behind by 1 point at half time Gateway came out strongly to win the Championship by 52 – 48. Gateway Kandy team displayed tremendous courage and commitment to stay unbeaten throughout the tournament. Shevan Jayaweera of Gateway Kandy was the Most Valuable Player and Navindu Weerasinghe the Best Offensive Player of the tournament. During the preliminary round, Gateway beat Nalanda College Colombo by 54 to 22 and St. Anthony’s College Wattala 40-35.

They beat St. Anne’s College 44-20 at the Pre-Quarter finals De La Salle College Mutwall 70-53 at the Quarter and Azhar Central College 53-31 at the Semis.

Basketball at Gateway Kandy received a tremendous boost with the installation of a sophisticated rubberized air cushioned court with modern state-of-the-art equipment.
