Don’t pollute sacred city during Poson - Media Minister
The Government has taken steps to extend food, water, health and
sanitary facilities to devotees who come to Mihintale and Anuradhapura
for Poson.
Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka
told the Media that around two million devotees were expected at the
Atamasthana and Mihintale during this season.
Minister Karunathilaka urged devotees not to pollute the environs of
the sacred city. “A policy decision has also been taken to ban bathing
in the Tissa Wewa and Nuwara Wewa since these two reservoirs will only
be used to fulfill the drinking water needs of the devotees,” the
Minister said.
He said that around 4,000 police officers have been deployed to
ensure security in the area, while life-saving teams consisting of 600
Navy personnel have also been deployed.
