COPE report on Treasury Bond sales before June 30
Parliamentary watchdog, the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE)
headed by Chairman and JVP MP Sunil Handunetti told the Sunday Observer
that a report on the Treasury Bonds issue would be finalized and handed
over to Parliament before June 30.
He confirmed that the Auditor General's Department was in receipt of
a dossier submitted by the Central Bank which contains important
information relating to the Treasury Bond Sales.
"We can confirm that we have received it," he said. He also said that
the COPE report into the Treasury Bonds issue would be finalized and
handed over to Parliament before June 30, before the end of Mahendran's
first term in office.
The Secretary to the Ministry of National Policies and Economic
Affairs M.I.M Rafeek confirmed that the dossier was submitted to the
Auditor General's Department on June 15. The Central Bank falls under
the purview of this Ministry.
On June 8, Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, Secretary to the
Ministry of Treasury and Finance, Dr. R.H.S. Samarathunga and Secretary
to the Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs, M.I.M. Rafeek
were summoned by COPE and requested to provide all information relating
to the investigation before June 15.
