Superheroes at Supercross 2016

The ‘Cavalry Supercross 2016’ was held at the Cavalry Supercross racing track at Pangolla, Kurunegala recently. It was held in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR) and organized by the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC). Ravinu Rathnayaka and Minuka Rathnayaka won the Best Riders Trophy for Junior under 10 category. They are featured on the cover in this week's issue.

The project ‘Cavalry Supercross,’ was inaugurated in 2010, and became an annual event in the Sri Lanka Motor Racing calendar. The event caters to both drivers and riders. Being a first for the Armoured Corps, the Cavalry Super Cross is organised to focus on the precision organising capability and technical know-how that ‘Armoured Corps’ is synonymous with. The Cavalry Supercross was conceptualised by Brigadier Indunil Ranasinghe. It is a fund raising project with a focus on providing improvements to welfare facilities that are available for the immediate family members of officers, men killed or maimed in battle.

The Cavalry Supercross is expected to be an event that will be a source of sustainable income to feed such welfare projects within the Corps.

After the Cavalry Supercross, the “CEAT Sri Lanka Super Series 2016” will conduct the Pannala Circuit Meet 1 on July 31, Commando Challenge on October 9 and Pannala Circuit Meet 2 on November 13 before declaring the overall winners of all categories.
