MCSL calls on IGP for action taken against BBS
Muslim Council of Sri Lanka (MCSL) in a letter addressed to the Inspector
General of Police Pujith Jayasundara has called for an immediate inquiry and
action to be taken against the hate speech by Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General
Secretary Ven. Galaboda Aththe Gnanasara thera at Mahiyangana on June 21
threatening a repeat of the Aluthgama violence against the Muslim community.
The MCSL has also enclosed a DVD to the IGP containing the speech by Ven.
Gnanasara thera which they claim is a provocation of violence. Thera in his
speech made at Mahiyangana has threatened a repeat of the Aluthgama violence
against the Muslim community and has also threatened the Police. The MCSL letter
to the IGP further states that “ As you are aware, two years ago, on June the
15, 2014, Ven.Gnanasara Thera incited the people of Kalutara district to unleash
violence, death and destruction of Muslims in Aluthgama and Beruwela. The
rioting caused the death of two persons, destroyed houses and properties of
Muslims and caused damages to their billions worth businesses.”
The repeated calls by the Muslim community for a commission of inquiry and
punish the perpetrators have turned on deaf ears. After lapse of two years, Ven.
Gnanasara Thero is proudly claiming that he will repeat Aluthgama incident in
Mahiyangana. The MCSL calls upon the IGP to immediately initiate an inquiry
against the said threat and take necessary Police action against this
provocation to violence. The MCSL has also requested the IGP to conduct an
inquiry on Aluthgama riots against the Muslims and take necessary police action
against the perpetrators. Ven.Gnanasara thera is proudly claiming responsibility
for the violence in Aluthgama and there is also ample video evidence to his
provocation on June 15, 2014. |
