Chaturanga breaks 22-year-old swim record

Imesh Chathuranga of DS Senanayake College broke a 22-year-old meet record when he clocked 2:13.54 secs in the boys 200m Butterfly event on the third day of 43rd Milo Sri Lanka Schools Swimming Championship held at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.

Gefari Dulapandena held the previous record which he established in 1994 with a time of 2:15.05 secs.

South Games medalist Ramudi Samarakoon of Visakha Vidyalaya also set up a new meet record in the girls 50m Breast stroke final clocking 36.64 secs to erase the previous record of 36.73 secs set by Mineka Karunaratne in 2007.

There were nine new meet records set during the day. Today is the final day.
