COPE interim reports to be presented to Parliament


An interim report on 20 institutions which COPE investigated from January to April will be presented to Parliament, as soon as it is translated into all three languages COPE Chairman Sunil Handunnetti told the Sunday Observer. He said the purpose of presenting interim reports as opposed to one report at the end of the year.

The long overdue new Audit Draft Bill that will give sweeping powers to the Auditor General to hold state officials accountable over fiscal matters has stopped short of reaching Cabinet. The Auditor General Gamini Wijesinghe said,

 

JO to launch broad-based national movement


The Joint Opposition (JO) will launch a broad-based national movement urging the people to rally against the government. It will be marked with a four-day protest march that would commence on July 28 from Kandy and expected to reach Colombo on August 01.
