Rewarding and adventurous career path for youngsters

Mercmarine Training recently hosted the students of Nalanada College, Colombo, at its state-of-the-art facility in Maradana as part of its continued endeavour to promote the local shipping and maritime industry.

The students of the Association of Marine Engineering and Nautical Science of Nalanda College were given a practical demonstration of equipment and theories that stimulated the realities of the shipping world, by lecturers of the Institute.

A Mercmarine official outlines the functions of the Navigation Room Simulator and Engine Room Simulator to the students.

Business Development Manager at Mercmarine Training, Lalindra Fernando said, "At Mercmarine Training, we have always dedicated resources to inspire and guide the youth in choosing a rewarding and adventurous career path in the shipping industry. We have understood that youth are relatively unaware of the multitude of career opportunities that are available in the merchant navy."

"We believe that building a strong workforce of maritime professionals could significantly benefit the economy.

Mercmarine Training has always extended support to youth associations such as Nalanda College's Association of Marine Engineering and Nautical Science to build a young generation of passionate seafarers," he said.

"Mercmarine Training continues to raise awareness of the endless career opportunities at sea, that could in turn create a young generation of passionate seafarers who ultimately contribute to the development of the industry at large," Fernando said. "We are delighted to help these enthusiastic youngsters in their quest to pursue their dreams. Mercmarine Training invites all schools interested in initiating similar projects to contact us at any time," he said.

The Association of Marine Engineering and Nautical Science of Nalanda College, Colombo is the only student association catering to young marine enthusiasts at a school level in the entire South Asian region, according to a press release.

Founded in 2013, this association aims to provide enthusiastic students with related education as an extra-curricular program.
