No. 1 songs when UK PMs came to power
Can you remember what was number one the day you were born? How about
the day your brothers or sisters were born? Or your kids?
Or perhaps you pay more attention to Christmas number ones? Many so
enjoy bearing the knowledge of what particular tunes are atop the charts
on that special day even when it’s another X Factor contestant who’ll
soon fade into obscurity.
If you can recall what was number one when a certain Prime Minister
came into power, though, we’d be surprised. Yesterday (13 July) saw
Theresa May enter Downing Street taking over duties from David Cameron.
As the historical moment occurred, the UK’s number one single was
Drake’s “One Dance” - a song that just happens to be the millennium’s
longest-running number one single.
Global music streaming service Deezer has compiled a list detailing
which particular songs were number one when Prime Minsters past past
came into power.
Interestingly, the second longest-running single of the millennium -
Rihanna and Jay-Z’s “Umbrella” - was atop the charts when Gordon Brown
took over from Tony Blair as Labour leader.
