‘Vocalise Generation 4’ kicks off
The Music Circle of Ananda College inaugurated its annual musical competition
‘Vocalise’ for the fourth consecutive time. The first Round was held at
Kularatne Hall on the 3rd of June from 9 AM to 4 PM. It was graced by a panel of
judges that included Nadeeka Guruge, Heshan Gamage, Jananath Warakagoda, and
Kanchana Jayasinghe, as well as participants from several schools island-wide.
As with its previous installations, ‘Vocalise Generation 4’ is divided into two
categories, solo and choir. Three schools were shortlisted under the latter
category - Nalanda College, St Benedict’s College, and Alethea International -
while 18 participants were shortlisted under the former category. The second
Round will be held somewhere in August, which will in turn precede the annual
musical fiesta organised by the Music Circle, ‘Rhythm of the Maroons’, set to be
held towards the end of the year.
‘Vocalise’ can be considered as one of Sri Lanka’s premier school-based musical
competitions, with all three of those who reached the top in its previous
installations - Dhanushka Chandimal, Janith Iddamalgoda, and Piyath Rajapaksha -
making a mark for themselves in top-notch reality TV shows and in turn the
musical sphere of the country.
