Arugam bay marathon today

More than 200 participants including foreign and local tourists and local athletes are expected to take part in the Grand 21.5 KM Marathon Race scheduled to commence today (Sunday the 17th July) at 7.00 am at Sinna Ulle Al-Aqsa Vidayalaya

Arugambay Development Forum has organized this event themed "Run for Education". This will be an additional attraction for tourists who are frequent visitors to Arugambay to holly daying during this season specially for Surfing" A Press Briefing Chaired by the President of the ADF MHM Jamahim at Arugambay Tri Star Hotel Auditorium was held on Wednesday, the Secretary Dr. ZM Hajith briefed the entire programme has been scheduled . He said that since the event was to be held for the first time in the tourist resort Arugamabay, that too after the Ramazan Festival, this would be an additional attraction for the people in the area especially the tourists in Arugamabay. The Marothan race is scheduled to commence at Arugambay Al-l Aqsa Vidyalaya via Pasarichechenai (along Pottuvil- Panama Main trunk Road), Sawalai, Pottuvil , Urani and return on the same rout and end up at the Staring point at Al-Aqsa Vidyalaya.

He also added that the winner of this Marathon will be awarded a cash price of Rs. 30,000.00 and a memento while the second and third prizes would be Rs. 20,000.00 and Rs.15, 000.00 respectively. In addition, consolation prizes too will be awarded to the participants.

Police, Hoteliers, Sports Clubs, Voluntary Organizations, Non Governmental Organizations, State Institution and well-wishers have already consented to extend their fullest support and assistance to make this event a great success.
