Ports Authority employees walk for a cause
Staff contribute Rs. 2.5 million:
The Sri Lanka Ports Authority conducted a walk in Colombo to create
awareness regarding the kidney disease prevailing in several parts of
the country, and to collect funds for the Kidney Protection Fund,
coinciding with its 40th anniversary.
Ports and Shipping Minister, Arjuna Ranatunga and Sri Lanka Ports
Authority Chairman, Dhammika Ranatunga also took part. Over 4,000 Port
Authority employees participated in the three km long walk, raising
awareness among the people. Rupees 2.5 million raised from the
employees' contributions was donated to the kidney protection fund. The
Presidential Task Force with the Health, Education, Agriculture, and
Science and Technology Ministries has launched many programs to save
people from the deadly disease. Increased facilities for dialysis
treatment will arrest the spread of the disease. |
