Airman corpse baffles police

The body of an Air Force Airman attached to the Ratmalana Air Force Base was found on a road adjacent to the Ratmalana Airport junction yesterday morning.

The Police had received information regarding a body of a male at around 1.15 am. According to the Police, the cause of death remains suspicious as the officer was found with a number of visible injuries that appeared to be bleeding. ¨Investigations are underway to ascertain whether the death was due to an accident or foul play,¨ a Police source said.

The body was later removed to the Air Force Base where it was kept under Police protection.

According to the Police media Unit the deceased was identified as 40-year-old, K.S Deshapriya, a resident of Girikola, Agalawatta.

He was also said to be an officer serving at the Ratmalana Air Force Base at the time of his death.

The initial magistrate’s examination and the post mortem were due to be held later in the day. A team of officers from the Mount Lavinia Police are carrying out further investigations.
