Sri Lanka - A sustainable macro economy through
enhancement of rural education:
STRONG CONTRIBUTOR TOWARDS NUDGING POLICY MAKERS
Dr. Tissa K. Dissanayake was born in a village bordering the Central
Province of Sri Lanka, in a small town named Rambukkana, famously known
for banana plantations. He was privileged to be educated in a recognised
private boarding school, Trinity College - Kandy, throughout his entire
school career. His father, the late D.M. Karunarathna Dissanayake was a
successful businessman; founder of Dissanayake and Sons, and a landed
proprietor. Tissa's late mother D.M. Daswatta Dissanayake was a
housewife attending to the affairs of eleven children, of whom Tissa was
the youngest.
Tissa, completed his first Bachelor's degree in Business Management
at the Institute of Technological Studies (ITS), Narahenpita, Colombo 5,
and migrated to the United States in 2003, where he enhanced his
education.
Degree
By the end of 2015, Tissa successfully completed his doctoral degree
with an emphasis on Public Administration, Non-Profit Organizations, and
Education, at Franklin Pierce University, New Hampshire, USA. His
dissertation presented research work on, Alleviating the Disparities of
Resources Allocation for Education in Sri Lanka. After successfully
defending the dissertation, he was awarded his doctorate with an almost
perfect grade (in USA terms Grade Point Average, which was 3.97 out of
4).
The objective of Tissa's research based book, Sri Lanka: A
Sustainable Macro Economy through Enhancement of Rural Education, is to
explore poor policy making decisions that obstruct the alleviation of
disparities in resource allocation for rural education in Sri Lanka.
Enhancement
The purpose of the book is to look into the enhancement of rural
education that has been severely neglected by short sighted political
leadership in Sri Lanka. In that perspective, this study has conducted
an in-depth research of deprived rural schools and the lack of political
leadership that negatively impact the rural education system.
The book reiterates that servant leadership and transactional
leadership have faded away from the policy makers, to be replaced by a
narcissistic leadership. Thus, it is recommended that the policy makers
empathically serve and augment the rural education system that would
eventually contribute towards the nation's sustainable macro economy.
Scholarly
Dr. Dissanayake's book, has mainly focused on the collegiate students
and the scholars/researchers in the field of public administration,
non-profit organisations, and education, to share research findings and
contribute to the ongoing scholarly issues, while the subject matters
dealt therein are relevant in public dialogue as well.
This great piece of work recommends to the general public to be
exposed to the significant ongoing downturns in the rural education
system. His message is a strong contributor towards nudging the policy
makers to empathically treat the under privileged and unprivileged rural
citizens in the field of education.
Dr. Dissanayake wishes to be an initiator on policy matters.
