Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary & International
Day of Non-Violence :
held at Thurkai Mani Mandapam, Nallur, Jaffna
On the occasion of the 147th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and
the International Day of Non-Violence, the Consulate General of India in
Jaffna, in association with the All Ceylon Gandhi Sewa Sangham,
organised a cultural event by local artistes and students; and an
Oration by a well-known speaker from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, Prof. (Mrs)
Jayanthasri Balakrishnan, who is an educationalist, writer, poet and
translator. In her oration, Prof. Balakrishnan highlighted the
significance of Gandhi's Ahimsa, peace and harmony which was deeply
appreciated by the audience of around 500 guests.
The local artistes played Veena Ganam to the Raghupathy Ragava
Rajaram, and schoolchildren sang patriotic songs. The jam-packed program
was attended by the followers of principles of Mahatma Gandhi,
educationalists, intellectuals, national politicians, art lovers and
