Young CIMA Star of 2002 The Young CIMA Star of the Year Award has been initiated by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Sri Lanka division to recognise and promote outstanding young CIMA professionals. This award will be given annually to either a CIMA passed finalist or a young CIMA member below the age of 25. The candidates for this award should be well-rounded, intelligent, mature and dynamic young individuals. They should have made significant contributions to society, having obtained outstanding achievements in the sports, literary and professional arenas, winning reputed awards both nationally and internationally. At the CIMA convocation held in Colombo recently this award was presented to Ravi Mahendra by chief guest Christopher Weeramantry, a former Judge of the World Court. Mahendra is a young associate member of the institute. He became a passed finalist of CIMA at the age of 19 and obtained associate membership of the institute at 22. He is currently reading for an MBA at the University of Warwick through a distance learning programme. An old boy of Wycherly International School, he works as the Financial Controller of Ayojana Fund Management (Pvt) Ltd.. He has also been lecturing a number of CIMA subjects at the Colombo Business School. A merit award was also presented to Diluk Aluwihare, a young associate member with a Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing UK and an upper second class Honours Degree in Business Administration from the University of Colombo. An old boy of S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia, Aluwihare has represented Sri Lanka at rowing championships. He is presently working as Manager, Project Implementation at E-business Labs (Pvt) Ltd. At the CIMA convocation, 82 recently elected Associate and Fellow Members and 155 new passed finalists and prize winners at the November 2001 examination received their certificates and gold medals. |
