Using the serviette

Business Styleby J.A.A.S. Ranasinghe

* You should never use the serviette until you are ready for the meal. Desist from using the serviette to wipe out your sweat before or during the course of the meal.

* You may place the serviette on your lap just before the commencement of the meal, if the waiter does not place it on your lap. Some serviettes have button holes.

* If you want to leave the seat, do not forget to fold it and place it beside your plate or on the arm of your chair. It is hygienically risky for you to carry it to the cloakroom and bring it back to the dining table. Do not leave the serviette on your seat.

* Please understand that the serviette is not your handkerchief. It is not meant for you to clean the nose, teeth, ear or any other organ.

* You can certainly use the serviette to dab the corners of your mouth gently. Extra care must be taken by ladies wearing lipstick when dabbing serviettes on the lips. Do not wipe out meal particles by using napkins. It could certainly be used to pick and clean meals that have dropped onto your clothes or body.
