CITI gets ready for fashion show The Clothing Industry Training Institute (CITI) in Ratmalana and its Diploma students for the academic year 2001/2002 are preparing for their colloquium and Fashion Show 2002. The fashion show will be choreographed by Geraldine Bandaranaike. Forty eight outfits on six themes will be displayed. The themes are Informal Seduction, Wide Petals, Beyond the Invisible, Anture Collection, Formal After the Sunset and Warm Sensation. Omega Line Ltd. and Coats Thread Ltd. are the main sponsors of the show. It will be held on December 10 at the Ceylon Continental Hotel, Colombo. The objective of the CITI is to improve the clothing industry by providing an adequate supply of properly trained personnel at all levels and in all types of occupations within the industry. The institute was set up in 1984 with the expertise of a team of consultants from Fielden House Productivity Centre, UK under the Technical Services Component of IDA/World Bank. The Institute provides need-based practical-oriented training courses for those already engaged in the industry as well as for those hoping to enter the clothing industry. Its laboratories and workshops have a range of modern equipment appropriate to the courses offered. The CITI now aims to develop training activities into technological areas by introducing long-term courses in clothing technology and sewing-machine engineering. The Japanese government, through the Japanese International Co-operation Agency, has implemented a five-year project type technical co-operation programme from April 1996 to upgrade the institute's training abilities. It has provided modern machinery and equipment as well as expertise and training in Japan for the staff. |
