Zimbabwe offers World Cup assurance to ICC - Speed HARARE, Nov 30 (Reuters) - Zimbabwe's government has guaranteed it will allow all accredited journalists into the country for the 2003 cricket World Cup, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Saturday. ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed said he had been given a written assurance during a trip to Zimbabwe to assess safety issues before the tournament. The issue came to a head after two British journalists hoping to cover the ICC trip were refused entry. "Widespread coverage of the ICC cricket World Cup 2003 is a vital element of the tournament," Speed said in a statement after a meeting with Zimbabwe's minister for education, sport and culture Aeneas Chigwedere. Zimbabwe are due to host six World Cup games in February. |
