Army belt issue settled amicably By Ramani Kangaraarachchi The Army belt issue that led to the unrest in Manipay early this week, has been settled amicably with the Army and the LTTE agreeing to strictly observe the ceasefire regulations with regard to dress code. The agreement was reached at a special meeting held under the patronage of the SLMM in Jaffna last week. According to the agreement if the Army finds any LTTE cadre wearing military type belts they will inform the SLMM, and the LTTE will in return voluntarily remove such belts in the areas under government control. This was disclosed by SLMM spokesman Ole Brondum. He hoped that the agreement would prevent such type of incidents in the future. The incident occurred when some LTTE women cadres wearing SL Army type belts, were stopped by the troops and told to remove their belts. |
