Romancing with nature 
Safari Village Hotel

Overlooking the scenic 'Knuckles Range' bordering the Wasgamuwa Wildlife Sanctuary, stands the Safari Village Hotel at Wasgamuwa, in the Matale district, a true haven for wildlife enthusiasts.

Built on three acres of land, tastefully landscaped in line with the wildlife concept of the hotel, the resort has 12 chalets with all facilities for wildlife. It is equipped with all modern facilities for the discerning traveller, including hot/cold water, telephone and room service.

All chalets have been designed to offer guests a panoramic view of the beautiful 'Dunuwila lake' and the 'Knuckles Range' one of Sri Lanka's main tourist attraction. The hotel is a base to explore many tourist attractions in the Central Province, including the Wasgamuwa Wildlife Sanctuary, and places of historical value, dating back to the King Dutugemunu era including the ruins of the Weheragala temple, built by King Dutugemunu.


A tastfully designed Cabana

The hotel provides a host of attractions for foreign and Sri Lankans including safaris to Muthiyangana temple at Mahiyangana, the Sorabora Wewa, camping facilities to the Wasgamuwa park, boating on the Dunuwila lake, fishing, cycling to remote villages and visiting Veddhas at Dambana. The added attractions include jeep,safaris and night safaris to nearby villages, to watch herds of elephants, leopards and other animals in their natural habitat, river baths at the Mahaweli river on the Eastern border of Wasgamuwa, and many more.

The hotel has two restaurants, the main restaurant and the 'Sundeck' restaurant which serve appetising Western,Eastern and spicy Sri Lankan cuisine.

The hotel prides itself for Chinese delicacies as it is affiliated to the Kinjou Chinese Restaurant, Colombo 5.

South African cuisine comes to Taj Samudra

The South African Food Festival which began at the Taj Samudra on March 29 has become a big hit not only to foreign tourists, but Sri Lankans alike.

'The Ports' coffee shop of the Taj Samudra where the festival is being held, has been packed to capacity since the festival began on March. 29. It will go on until April 7.

The festival has been organised in association with the South African High Commission in New Delhi. Exclusive South African food prepared by an expert South African chef, Terry Jenkinson specially flown in for the festival, is being offered to guests.

Chef Terry Jenkinson has more than 12 years experience in the preparation of traditional South African food.

A new trend emerging in South Africa is the use of traditional recipes and ideas combined with some ethnic traditional ingredients, Chef Jenkinson said. Some of South Africa's famous dishes are being offered by Chef Jenkinson with a change each night, at the South African Food Festival.

South African High Commissioner for New Delhi and Sri Lanka, Ms. Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, First Secretary, Reinhardt Deysel and First Secretary (Political) Madona Ntshinga were the chief guests at the colourful opening ceremony which was graced by a host of VIPs and other leading personalities in the tourism sector. "Avurudu Kavili" at Ceylon Continental

The next week will mark the most enjoyable national festival of the year. The Ceylon Continental Hotel is gearing up to offer many attractions during the festival.

A special 'Avurudu Kavili' counter offering traditional food items, will be run at the La Pattiserie de Paris pastry shop, from April 10 - 15. Guests, both foreign and locals will be able to experience the real flavour of Sri Lankan traditional sweet meats, at this counter, Manager Food and Beverage, Ceylon Continental, Nalaka Colombage said.

Visit the La Patisserie de Paris from April 19 - 20 to find out about the toothsome Easter goodies that the Ceylon Continental will have in store. There will also be a scrumptious Easter brunch at the Cafe Emerald on Sunday April 20. Moving away from the season stuff, a mouth-watering 'Pancake Promotion' will take place at the Cafe Emerald from April 18 - 27.

Ceylon Continental is also offering something special to Sri Lankan families who will miss their domestics during the Avurudu festivities. A special Avurudu package has been planned where special rates on rooms, and food, will be offered.

Special discounted rates are offered at the hotel's large and beautiful swimming pool and at the Health Centre, during the Avurudu period, Colambage said.
