News in brief Kapu to be laid to rest today Funeral of popular singer Visharada Gunadasa Kapuge will take place at the General Cemetery, Kanatte at 5.00 p.m. today. His remains lie at the National Art Gallery (Kalabavana)till 3.00 p.m. for the public to pay their respects. Kapuge (57) who was returning home after a musical show in Dubai, sustained critical injuries, last Wednesday, in a fall while disembarking from the aircraft at the Bandaranaike International Airport. 'Hundreds' of Americans killed at airport - Iraq BAGHDAD, April 5 (Reuters) - The Iraqi military said "hundreds" of U.S. troops were killed at Baghdad international airport on Saturday in a battle which Iraq said it had won. "The enemy was forced to retreat suffering hundreds of casualties and Saddam International Airport has been changed to a graveyard for the invaders," the Iraqi military said in a statement. "We still do have troops on the ground at the airport. There's sporadic fighting," Thorp added. Western embassies fight shy of mail The Anthrax scare, all but forgotten in the furore over the war on Iraq, has surfaced again, albeit on a lesser scale at the US Embassy and the British High Commission, with both diplomatic missions taking extra precautions to ensure that hand-delivered mail is not contaminated with the anthrax virus or any other dangerous substances. While neither mission has issued any notice to the effect, all mail despatched to the embassies have been returned unopened, with an endorsement that hand delivered mail cannot be accepted. US embassy sources, when contacted denied any specific changes in receiving mails, but admitted they had introduced a few precautionary measures where all hand-delivered letters have to be opened and displayed by the messenger or courier bringing in the mail. British High Commission admitted that all incoming mail were scanned.
