Guide to goods and services in Greater Colombo The consumer guide to goods and services in the Greater Colombo Area, Hands-on Colombo 2003 was launched recently. Dinesh Kulatunga, Managing Director of Neptune Connections (Pvt) Ltd, the publisher of the guidebook, said that ever since they took over its publication in June last year, they had been gathering and updating the information for this year's edition which not only contained new entries, but also more categories when compared to the previous editions. Kulatunga said that a unique feature of the publication was that the companies listed are not paid for as advertisements as in the case of other directories. "The companies listed here have no influence on the write-ups about them. Our Board of Editors has set the criteria and the write-ups are based on these criteria. Unlike in the case of other directories, they cannot buy their way in", he explained. Kulatunga also noted that they had made the publication more user-friendly and reduced its size and weight significantly though it contains more information than the previous editions. He noted that in a context where Colombo's business scene is undergoing constant change with new companies being set up, and old companies closing down or changing location, there is a need to constantly monitor and make users aware of the latest changes. As such, Hands-on Colombo would be publishing a six-month update to be issued in August which will be mailed to users free of charge. He also noted that their website will be updated on a weekly basis. Kulatunga also revealed plans to launch a Hands-on Asia series encompassing other major Asian cities such as Tokyo, Bangkok and New Delhi. Work on these publications has already commenced and they will be released in the near future, he added. |
