Footwork at its best by Umangi de Mel
It takes two to tango and a full house to witness what `foot work' is all about. The first Footwork International DanceSport Championship was held at the Grand Ballroom, Hilton Colombo on April 6 featuring three times German champions Michael Torres and Sabine Kramski. The easy going, vibrant energy that was let loose on the floor offered dance and diversion to the viewers. Slender, long legged beauties, standing tall and elegant, moving with rhythm and style across the dance floor enhanced the event. Tail coats, lavender dresses, string tops and halter necks laced with tinted feathers, rhine stones and tassels revealing soft curves, sexy cleavage and bellies as flat as can be. Their agile movements raised a lot of eyebrows as they twisted and turned on high heels igniting the night, before a massive audience that enjoyed a session of both Ballroom and Latin American steps.
The hot contestants were confident and cool, taking the winning strides with ease, while the passionate and vibrant, danced into the night not giving much thoughts to the trophy but their zest for dancing which summed up their stamina. While Jive, Samba, Rumba, Quick Step, Waltz, Tango and myriad other twists and twirls took place, three times German champions, Sabine Kramski and Michael Torres entranced the audiences with breathtaking graceful steps and inspired them to stay in their seats till the dancers took a bow. The show was sponsored by Carlsberg, Mobitel, National Lotteries Board, Dynavision, Sun & Gold FM and Sunday Observer. The competition was judged by 11 international adjudicators, together with Dharshan Wijesooriya from Sri Lanka. |
