Country and western her music

Drucille G - keyboardist /guitarist and one of the front line singers of the popular band Pearl led by Jayantha de Silva is no stranger to our music scene. Her first love is Country music and she started off her musical career singing a repertoire of these earthy songs plus the popular songs of that time.

A composer of original songs, Drucille hopes to release them on a CD in the near future. Friendly and ever willing to help, Drucille readily answered the questions we posed to her despite the fact we snapped her out of her afternoon siesta!

Name: Drucille G (Drucille Gomez)
Birthday: February 6

Fav colour: Yellow. The colour radiates happiness. For instance yellow flowers are beautiful and I love them.

Trendy outfits: I'm all for it. I wish I could wear every trendy outfit! But I guess I have to think of the shape of my figure.

Hair do's: I like to be adventurous with styles that suit my face. I'm all for tinting. In fact my hair has burgundy and brown tints and I prefer short hair because it is easy to manage.

Fav music: Country and western. But I listen to all types of music. I sing all types in the band Pearl. I enjoy R&B. I've composed many country songs and I intend re-arranging the songs, using other singers and releasing them in a CD.

Fav song of the 80's and 90's: From the 80's Neil Sedaka's "Laughter in the Rain." From the 90's - come to think of it, I can't put my finger on a particular song, except tell you that I enjoy Lorrie Morgan very much.

Any embarrassing day: Yes. It stands out well. The band was playing "New Kid In Town" and I was singing the song and I don't know how I just lost my concentration. I came back at the wrong place in the melody and got cold stares from the rest of the band. It never happened again!

How much of a party girl are you: No. I'm not a party girl. I love laughter and friends. But not partying.

After a late night what keeps you awake: It's not easy to fall asleep. I watch TV until I'm ready to hit the bed. These days I get up early in the morning for walks to help me keep in good shape.

Are you superstitious: Yes I am. But in little things.

Do you still have your childhood toys: I didn't have many toys when I was a kid. I had a rag doll which I loved very much - but she left me somewhere down the line!

What's your pet hate: The double standards in people. In general there are many who display double standards.

What makes you happy in life: My children. Actually apart from my children it takes a little bit to make me happy - for instance like sitting at the beach and watching the waves.

Where would you like to be most now: In Sri Lanka. I like travelling, seeing places but I'll always come back home.

What other profession would you like to be in: A chef. I have a knack for it. Everybody enjoys the food I cook. My speciality is rice and curry and my buriyani is extra special - I have my own secrets!

What would you do if you ruled the world: I'll make it a better place to live in. I'll influence the people to end racial hatred and end wars. I'll see that people have enough to eat - in short remove all barriers and make people happier.

Is there a product you would like to endorse: Commercially I don't like to endorse any product. But socially I would like to be associated with any movement or organisation against the abuse of children.

Fav cartoon character: The Simpsons.

Your worst hit song: The song from the Titanic - "My Heart Will Go On." It has been overplayed and I've been made to sing it umpteen times that I hate it now. If Elvis Presley were still alive, what would he be doing: He would still be singing. He had a beautiful voice. From his era, Cliff Richard is still popular, so I guess he would be recording, thrilling audiences and enjoying popularity.

What do you think life would be like in 3000: Life would be highly advanced technically, and I sincerely hope musicians won't be out of jobs!
