Miniruwani Samarakoon - the star at Pentathlon swimming c'ships by LESLIE FERNANDO Asian International School and Mahamaya College, Kandy took top spot in the men's and girls' overall honours at the three-day 31st Pentathlon swimming championships conducted by NAASU and concluded at the Sugathadasa Stadium swimming pool on Friday night. AIS collected 50 points while Ananda College took second place with 41 points and Trinity finished third with 30 points in the men's. Meanwhile Mahamaya College headed the girls with 100 points followed by Ladies College second with 31 points and Musaeus College third with 27 points. Miniruwani Samarakoon of Gateway International Kandy proved to be the 'star', establishing two records in the girls under-12. Miniruwani had records in the Butterfly stroke 2.33.95 secs and in the Individual Medley 2.52.01 secs. She also became the under-12 girls champion. The champions in the age groups and open are as follows: Men's open - Eranga Fernando (Rainbow AC), Boys under 19 - Akshayan Rajasingam (AIS), under 16 - Kalyan Veera (AIS), under 14 - Chanaka Malanbada (Ananda), under 12 - H. Unamboowe (Trinity), under 10 - D. N. de Mel (S. Thomas'). Women's open - Radhika Jayasundera (RAC), under 19 - Dilanthi Ranaweera (Mahamaya College), under 16 - Mihiri Kandanarachchi (Mahamaya), under 12 - Madavi Dharmadasa (Musaeus), under 12 - Miniruwani Samarakoon (Gateway Kandy), under 10 - Sunethra Wijeratne (Mahamaya College). |
