Peterites de Silva, Perera and Nalanda's Priyanjan best among junior cricketers

Peterites Gihan de Silva (under 17) and Prabudha Perera (under 15) and Nalanda's Ashan Priyanjan (under 13) took major honours when they won awards for the Most Outstanding Cricketers at he Astra Junior School Cricket awards ceremony held at the Kularatne Hall of Ananda College last Wednesday.

De Silva, the Peterite wicketkeeper-batsman struck two centuries 123 against S. Thomas' Mount Lavinia and Maris Stella, Negombo while Prabudha Perera plundered five centuries in his 10 innings including a 36-ball unbeaten 101 against Bandaranayake MV Gampaha in their under 15 match.

Nalanda's S. M. Ashan Priyanjan who won the award for the Most Outstanding Cricketer in the under 13 age group, had a solitary hundred and three half centuries against his name. The following schools won awards for being champs in their respective age groups:

Under 13 Division one - Champions: Ananda College 'A', runner up: St. Peter's 'A', Division two - Champions: Royal College 'B', runner up: Wesley College 'A', Division three - Champions: Piliyandala Central, runner up: Basilica College, Ragama, Division four - Champions: Mawathagama Central, runner up: Wadduwa Central.

Under 15 Division one - Champions: St. Peter's College, Colombo, runner up: Prince of Wales, Moratuwa, Division two - Champions: Asoka Vidyalaya, Colombo, runner up: Royal College, Panadura, Division three - Champions: Gamini Central College, Bentota, runner up: St. Sebastian's College, Katuneriya. Division four - Champions: Sri Dharmaloka, Kelaniya, runner up: Embilipitiya Central.

Under 17 Division one - Champions: St. Peter's College 'A' Colombo, runner up: Ananda College 'A' Colombo, Division two - Champions: Ananda College 'B' Colombo, runner up: Royal College 'B' Colombo, Division three -Champions: Tissa Central, Kalutara.

Minister of Schools Education Suranimala Rajapakse was the chief guest and Bandula Warnapura, Director, Cricket Operations BCCSL was the guest of honour.
