Junior Masters Tennis April 17 to 27

The Junior Masters Open Tennis Championship organised by Sudantha Soysa (Tournament Director) and sponsored by Lankem Robbialac Paints for the third consecutive year is to be worked off from April 17 to 27 at the Health SC courts, Castle Street.

This tournament has attracted 180 entries for 215 events (largest participation for any tournament this year), but is only a Grade 'C' event of the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA). No upgrading has been made for the last three years and Sudantha Soysa has already made an official complaint to the SLTA and hoped that the upgrading will be made even next year.

He further thanked Lankem for their generous sponsorship where most of the top juniors are competing. He further disclosed that a Junior Grand Prix involving tournaments at SSC, Queen's, Otters and Health, could be a reality soon.

General Manager of Lankem Robbialac, Tony Ranasinghe, said that he was happy to sponsor the Junior Masters which has been conducted well by Sudantha Soysa.

He too was surprised that the SLTA had not upgraded this event, but said that Lankem will continue to support it in the future too. (L.G.)
