Port users commend JCT Port users have commended the Jaya Container Terminal (JCT), the flagship container terminal of the Port of Colombo and the largest container terminal in South Asia, for its performance. Jan Thorhauge, Managing Director Maersk Sealand, claimed to be the world's largest container operator, in a letter to Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) Chairman Parakrama Dissanayke, said: "The JCT has demonstrated its ability to plan and get vessels in and out in a scamless process under tight time constraints. "The fact that you personally went twice to the quayside to monitor operations has not gone unnoticed and from our conversations with JCT operational staff, has served as great inspiration". He expressed satisfaction about the dedication and services rendered on the vessel Mumkebo Maersk last month by the entire JCT team, achieving a vessel productivity of 11,448 moves per hour. C.R. Karunatilake, General Manager (Operations) Maersk Sealand also expressed the company's appreciation for the attention given by SLPA in servicing their vessel in response to the request for a quick dispatch. "We were pleased to see the operations and navigation divisions meticulously planning and executing all activities from the time the vessel arrived until its departure. The outcome of such efforts was achieving one of the highest productivity levels at JCT. Operations were completed one hour ahead of the departure deadline," he said. Director, Lewis Shipping (Pvt) Limited, Capt. L.M. Jayasooriya commended the arrangements made to receive Queen Elizabeth II at the Port of Colombo. He also commended the timely berthing and sailing of the vessel, the excellent berthing facility provided at JCT I and the security arrangements made on behalf of the vessel, by the SLPA. |
