Qatar Airways increases flights to Colombo Qatar Airways now flies eight times a week to Colombo, living up to the promise made by its Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker to provide more travel opportunities to local travellers when he visited Sri Lanka last year. The additional flight is scheduled for Saturdays, arriving in Colombo at 7.35am, departing Colombo at 8.50am, and arriving in Doha at 10.45am. Qatar Airways will use an Airbus A320 on the route, which offers 12 Business Class and 132 Economy Class seats. Qatar Airways is one of the fastest growing airlines in the world. As part of its growth plan the airline will extend its route network to 50 destinations by the end of 2003. It presently flies to 40 destinations. It recently added Manchester to its growing network and will add Rome in June. Qatar Airways is also increasing its fleet. It presently has 23 new Airbus aircraft, which will increase to 28 by the end of this year. It recently announced that it would take delivery of a long range A319 corporate jetliner. It is also one of the launch customers for the A380 'super jumbo' in 2007. The company operates a number of subsidiary companies including Qatar Aviation Services, Qatar Aviation Catering Company, Qatar Airways Holidays, Doha International Airport and Qatar Duty Free. |
