'It's
stagelight and magic'

This arrogant guy
when I met him at Lake,
with his full grown beard
was in rather a haste.
Actor, director
founder of "Stagelight and Magic".
His name's Feroze Kamardeen
whose plays include the comic as well as tragic.
"Animal Farm", "Widows",
"The Complete Works of William Shakespeare"
"Accidental death of an anarchist",
"Macbeth" and "Julius Caesar"
In Aunty Wendy's play
"Sophro the Wise",
as old Sophro he acted,
in nineteen eighty five.
Feroze studied in D.S.
where he took part in many plays
under the directorship of Jerome,
"It was where I blossomed as an actor" he says.
In nineteen ninety three
he started directing school productions,
such as "Macbeth" and "Hamlet"
which both won the great "Shake" competition.
"Having formed "Stagelight and Magic""
and acted in his plays,
he has now moved on, taken a backseat
and is just enjoying directing them these days.
"Big brother's watching"
is a play he's currently working on,
which is based on G.O's novel
"1984", which he liked at once.
The play will be out in June
Feroze says "It's relevant to contemporary society
I'm against this big brother concept
be it a dictator or a superpower economic or military".
The play will be presented differently
to Feroze's usual special effects galore,
"I want to focus on the acting
it will be more of an actor's show".
Acting or directing
which does he most like?
He says he enjoys acting
but directing fulfils his life.
So what's the best part of it all?
Feroze says it's seeing the curtain rise
after many months of rehearsing
planning, hard work and sleepless nights.
General Manager of Golden Key,
fourth from a family of five.
His ultimate dream is to read all day,
he's afraid of snakes, spoilt food and heights.
His hobbies are playing cards and pool,
he says his friends say he cheats at both.
Craziest thing ever done - send his actors
dressed in camouflage - check cars out in the road.
So who is Feroze Kamardeen
this guy of thirty going on thirty one?
"I'm a pretty eccentric and stubborn person
who enjoys a laugh and having fun".
