Sea Tiger issue deadlocked The raging issue of the Sea Tigers and proposals for avoiding clashes at sea ended in deadlock yesterday, following a meeting the head of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) had with the Secretary of Defence, Navy Commander, Thamil Selvam and Sea Tiger commander, Susai, in Kilinochchi. SLMM spokesman, Teitur Torkelsson said, "It is now safe to say that the final agreement between government of Sri Lanka and the LTTE scheduled to be finalised on May 7, would take weeks to come through." Today, the head of the SLMM is expected to meet with the Norwegian Ambassador and Norwegian Deputy Foreign Minister in Colombo and explain matters on the stalemate. Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Navy apprehended a fast-moving fibreglass boat with an outboard motor near the restricted zone of the Trincomalee harbour, Friday night. Two persons aboard the boat, and some unidentified items in it were handed over to the Trincomalee Harbour Police, who are carrying out investigations, a military spokesman said. EL |
