SLT number change Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) will begin the region-by-region process of changing its customers' telephone numbers in conformity to the '10 Digit Number Change' from today, under a directive of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka. The first phase of number changes will apply to SLT customers in Ja-Ela and Katunayake (whose telephone numbers begin with '2' and whose area code is '01'), Panadura (whose area code is '038' and Mannar (whose area code is '023'). Subsequent to the change, every customer number will consist of seven digits (the 10 digits are made up of a three-digit area code followed by the seven-digit customer number). This will be done by adding the digit '2' or digits '22' to the old numbers. The next phase of changes will be applicable to customers in the exchange areas of Gampaha, Kurunegala, Ratnapura, Kandy, Kalutara, Galle and Hambantota (whose telephone numbers begin with '2'). The dates of these changes will be announced in advance. |
